Top Fuel Eliminator

Kenny Bernstein qualified 7th at 4.61/317 and went on
to lose the final to Amato.

Larry Dixon was the number 3 qualifier at 4.57/312 but
was an upset 1st round runner-up to rookie Andrew Cowin.

Mike Dunn is marching away from Randy Parks in this
qualifying match. This will be picture #1 of a 4 picture series
that pretty much captions itself.

On Friday, Parks suffered a blowover in his Rydin Decal
backed car. The crew worked all night preparing his backup
machine. In the 1st Saturday session, this fire erupted at
about half-track.

Needless to say it was a tough weekend for Mr. Parks. He
was the 3rd alternate with a best of 4.83/298.

One chute is out but burning off at a rather rapid pace.

Bob Vandergriff and Andrew Cowin both blaze the tires on
this qualifying attempt. Cowin eventually qualified #14 at
4.71/303 and lost to Doug Herbert in Round 2. Vandergriff
was the 2nd alternate with a 4.79/290.

Dave Grubnic shoed John Mitchell's Montana Express to
a 4.67/305 shot to qualify #13. They fell in round 1 to Tony
Schumacher's amazing 330 mph pass.

Gary Scelzi marches away from Gina Marie Ferraro.
Scelzi was #6 at 4.58/309 but was put away by Doug
Herbert in round 1. Ferraro was the 4th alternate with a
best of 4.93/262.

Photographer John Pattison caught Ferraro turning the
unique Chet Herbert engine into a blowtorch on this pass.
